This is my 30th year after being trained as a social worker. I have worked in the frontline for many years, mainly as a community worker. In the past 21 years, I have been a social work teacher, serving as a fieldwork supervisor in HK and China. In recent years, I teach social policy, social work research, and community development, etc. I feel very frustrated about the social welfare system in Hong Kong. With such a strong economic performance and fiscal reserve, Hong Kong has all the capacities to launch more long-term and comprehensive welfare planning and maintain a better protection for its citizens and to provide a more stable and reasonable working environment for social workers. I strongly believe that only when Hong Kong becomes a full democracy, can we have new ideas to move social welfare forward. Taiwan and South Korea are very good examples. When citizens have the power to elect their government, we can truly debate and find out the most acceptable way to develop our society, and the idea to develop our welfare system. Demo-social 60 promises to nominate a candidate representing the non-establishment to take part in the 2012 CE election, so that we can bring forth debates about democratization, and issues about social welfare development in the election process, forcing all candidates to response. Hope you can vote to support our cause.
