狄志遠從事社會工作二十多年，由青少年中心基層福利工作員到福利機構主管，多年來服務對象包括青少年、長者、家庭及社區。一直以來，以「榮神益人」為目標。現正修讀工商管理博士，研究題目為：「福利機構主管的領導」。

曾任民選區議員及首屆民選立法局議員。另外也曾擔任多項公職：家庭與學校合作事宜委員會主席、教育委員會委員、融合教育委員會主席、中文大學校董、策略發展委員會委員、持續發展委員會委員、扶貧委員會委員、公民教育委員會委員、愛滋病基金委員會委員、醫療融資工作小組組員、博愛醫院管治委員會委員、香港社會服務聯合執行委員會委員及中央政策組非全職顧問等。出版書籍有：《望子成龍‧家長心事》、《親子點狄》、《CEO家長》等。

Tik Chi-yuen is a registered social worker and has served the community for more than 20 years. His service started from a frontline social worker to agency head. He has served the target groups including youth, elderly people and families. Now he is taking the course on Doctor of Business Administration and the research topic is “New Leadership Roles of NGO manager”.

He was the former North District Board member and the Legislative Councilor. He has involved in lots of public service such as chairman of Committee on Home-School Co-operation, chairman of Committee on Youth Smoking Prevention, member of Board of Education, member of Commission on Strategic Development, member of Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education, member of Commission of Poverty, member of Council for the AIDS Trust Fund, member of Council for Sustainable Development and part-time member of Central Policy Unit.
